Will Smith Brings ‘Happy’ Family & Friends To Premiere
Tom and Katie were there. So were Jennifer and Marc, as the stars came out to pay their respects to Will Smith and his very “Happy” family.
Big Willie brought along the whole crew to celebrate the opening of his new movie, “The Pursuit of Happyness,” in Hollywood on Thursday night, and that included Access Hollywood’s inside man ? Will’s 14-year-old son and patented Access secret weapon Trey Smith.
We had Trey on the red carpet waiting for his folks to arrive.
“You’re not scared,” Will smiled as he kissed Trey while the cameras were rolling.
“Babe, he’s too old for that,” Jada said in her son’s defense.
“You’re never too old for that,” Will insisted, kissing Trey again.
It was truly a family affair at the premiere, with Will, Jada, Trey, little Willow, and of course, the movie’s adorable co-star 8-year-old Jaden.
“I’m nervous.. I thought I would be nervous, but I’m not nervous? well, I’m sort of nervous because I thought I would be nervous because of all the lights hitting my eyes, I thought that would hurt,” Jaden told Trey.
“And what do you think about the movie?” Trey asked mom Jada.
“I think it’s great. It’s sad. I was worried about my [eye] liner tonight ‘cause I know I’m gonna cry ? a lot,” Jada said.
Also at the premiere was the man of the hour ? the basis for the film, Chris Gardner, along with his son (who Jaden plays in the movie).
“Hey, you got a job. Trey got a job!” Chris said, applauding Trey on the red carpet.
Chris was so honored by Will’s portrayal of him in the movie, he placed a special ad in The Hollywood Reporter, a long with a photo from the set of Will and Chris.
“Will Smith played Chris Gardner better than Chris Gardner ever did.
Thank you.
We are so proud of you and Jaden.
Love,
Chris Gardner & Family and Mark Clayman”
We showed Chris the ad, to get his reaction.
“Oh man. This was the day we shot the scene where he got the job and he came over to me? see, why you show me this? You’re trying to get me all worked up,” an emotional Chris smiled.
But Chris wasn’t the only one getting all worked up.
Photographers were sent into a frenzy when J.Lo, Marc, Tom and Katie all showed up to support their friend Will.
After the movie, as the superstar foursome exited the theater, Tom and Katie raved about Will’s performance.
“He’s brilliant,” Tom said to the press, as he stopped to sign autographs for fans, with Katie standing nearby.
“Phenomenal,” she added of Smith’s role.
Tom worked his way down the autograph line, with Katie in tow, and eventually ducked into an awaiting car and sped off into the night.
“The Pursuit of Happyness” hits theaters December 15.
