Paul McCartney Promotes Vegetarianism In New PETA Ad
Paul McCartney is the latest star to be featured in an ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
The former Beatle and longtime non-meat eater posed for a photo campaign for PETA with the slogan, “I am Paul McCartney and I am a vegetarian.”
The ad campaign goes further, explaining McCartney had a moment when he realized he could no longer eat meat.
“Many years ago, I was fishing, and as I was reeling in the poor fish, I realized, ‘I am killing him – all for the pleasure it brings me,” he is quoted as saying in the campaign. “And something inside me clicked. I realized as I watched him fight for breath, that his life was as important to him as mine is to me.”
McCartney previously posed for PETA wearing a shirt, which read “Stop Eating Animals.”
McCartney has been a longtime supporter of vegetarianism. His fashion designer daughter, Stella, is also a supporter of PETA causes and refuses to use fur or leather in her designs.
PETA also has an award they hand out named after McCartney’s late wife, Linda, who was a longtime animal rights activist.
