Johnny Depp: His Films, Loves & Bad Boy Image

With a $14 million dollar box office take onWednesday and another big weekend in store, Johnny Depp and the ?Pirates of the Caribbean? franchise are inching ever closer to the billion dollar mark.

Quite a change for a man who has spent his whole career going against the grain.

?I’ve had the weirdest career in the world,? Johnny told Access Hollywood. ?I wouldn’t say I’m talented. I’ve been very, very lucky.?

We think talent has much more to do with it ? although the ever-humble Depp might never admit it.

Riding high on the massive success of ?Dead Man?s Chest,? it almost seems like Johnny has found his chest of gold, by accident.

?Are you against being in a movie that you know is gonna have a lot of commercialism to it?? Access? Nancy O?Dell asked in 1998.

?To make a choice about doing a film or not based on the result at the box office I think is crazy,? Johnny explained. ?I see that result as none of my business.?

After instant fame on TV?s ?21 Jump Street? 19 years ago, Johnny decided ? for better or worse ? that he would shape his own Hollywood destiny by often choosing bizarre roles in smaller films that barely made a dent in the box office.

?In the eyes of Hollywood in their language, I was kind of like poison, Johnny told Maria Menounos recently.

Deadly? Hardly. Gorgeous? Definitely.

But Depp resisted becoming a romantic leading man.

In 1990, he starred in the offbeat fantasy ?Edward Scissorhands? with then-girlfriend, Winona Ryder.

The couple shared a 4-year romance, while Johnny made three more critically-acclaimed films, none of which grossed more than $23 million.

In 1994, Johnny was arrested for trashing a New York hotel room and a bad boy image began to emerge in the press.

The same year Johnny was arrested, he began his 4-year relationship with supermodel Kate Moss.

?We’ve been together for a few years now, and it’s still new,? Johnny told us back in 1997. ?I was amazed at how new it is.?

After Johnny and Kate broke up in 1998, Johnny met the woman who would become his life partner ? Parisian actress/singer Vanessa Paradis.

Depp makes his home in France but continued to take offbeat roles. But he did share this equally unusual story with Access!

?Scarification,? Johnny affirmed. ?Marking yourself in one way or another is a memory.?

In 1999, Johnny’s daughter Lily Rose was born and with fatherhood, Depp was reborn.

?The birth of my daughter was instant clarity,? Johnny said in 1999. ?Everything just sharpened up focus.?
