Bret Michaels ‘Still Has Pain,’ Symptoms From Medical Woes

Bret Michaels may have returned to the stage, but the rocker is still on the road to recovery after suffering a brain hemorrhage in April and warning stroke just weeks later.

“While Bret may be out on the road and performing, he is still not 100 percent,” Janna Elias, V.P. of Michaels Entertainment told People. “He still has pain from the chemical meningitis, short term memory loss and gets fatigued quicker than normal.”

Bret’s chemical meningitis, or the re-absorption of blood from the hemorrhage into his system, was announced at a press conference in May — before his warning stroke found him hospitalized again.

Prior to the aforementioned health shocks, Bret was hospitalized for an emergency appendectomy in April while on tour and was in the process of recuperating.

Nevertheless, the musician-turned-reality star returned to the road in late May, following an appearance on the season finale of NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice,” where he nabbed the title, beating out Holly Robinson Peete. He also performed on the Season 9 finale of “American Idol” less than a week after “Apprentice,” with singer Casey James.

Elias told the mag that Bret was able to continue to rock after finding strength through music.

“[He] simply feels that music is a powerful healer,” Elias told People, with the star’s physician, Dr. Joseph Zabramski, adding that his patient was “truly one of the most determined individuals I have ever met.”

“Between 15 and 20 percent of patients die as a result of the initial hemorrhage, and only approximately 50 percent of those that survive have a good outcome,” Dr. Zabramski told the mag. “For anyone to speculate that this was not a life threatening medical emergency is absolutely incorrect.”

Bret’s new album, “Custom Built,” is due July 6.
