Why Blake Shelton Won’t Be Betting Luke Bryan At The CMAs
Blake Shelton and pal Luke Bryan have made a few bets over the years, but “The Voice” coach and country superstar has no plans to make one with his buddy ahead of tonight’s CMA Awards.
“Luke and I, the last couple of award shows, going back to the iHeart Radio Awards and then the CMT Awards, we had a bet on whoever won had to buy the other one dinner and somehow I won the iHeart Radio Award and so I had to go by him dinner that night,” Blake told Access Hollywood’s Liz Hernandez in Nashville, Tenn., on Wednesday.
But, that dinner went awry.

“Luke [came] walking in with his wife. That’s great. Then, with his entire band, and crew, his management team, some label people,” Blake said of the dinner-on-Blake-twist. “They had to like, find a room to put us all in. It was like a damn $10,000 dinner that I bought him that night. So, it was like, ‘Hey, hope you win next time buddy. I hope you win.'”
Blake assured Liz there is no way he’s betting on tonight’s show, but he has a feeling Luke could take home a trophy or two this evening at the CMAs.
“I actually think it’s down to Luke or Miranda, it could go either way,” Blake said of who he thinks will take the Entertainer of the Year Award tonight.
“But, I think for male vocalist, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings a bit to see Luke win that thing because man… I mean, he’s the guy that’s really out there selling all the tickets and selling so many tickets right now and I’m just the idiot that sits in the red chair,” Blake said.
The CMAs kick off tonight at 8/7c on ABC.
