Ben Affleck didn’t have a problem getting naked for his role in “Gone Girl” but there are some things Ben just won’t do for a role – like wear a New York Yankees hat on-screen.
The Oscar winner and notorious Boston Red Sox fan had a bout of creative differences with director David Fincher, when Fincher suggested a certain scene in the film would work best if Ben’s character, Nick Dunne, was wearing a Yankees cap.
That was the only fight David and I had, Ben said, according to the New York Times. And it was a legitimate fight.
The scene in question shows Nick Dunne at a New York airport, attempting to avoid being recognized by putting on a baseball cap but despite the scene’s locale, Ben wouldn’t budge.
I said, David, I love you, I would do anything for you. But I will not wear a Yankees hat. I just can’t. I can’t wear it because it’s going to become a thing, David. I will never hear the end of it. I can’t do it,” Ben recalled. “And I couldn’t put it on my head.
After a bit of back and forth, which Ben described as “a lot of shuttle diplomacy,” the film’s leading man and its director finally reached an agreement.
Ben wore a New York Mets hat for the scene.
“Gone Girl” opens in theaters on Friday.
