Dr. Drew On Mel Gibson & Oksana Grigorieva’s Public Battles; Mel Rep Calls Moving Rumors ‘BS’

Dr. Drew Pinsky has weighed in on Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva’s controversial relationship.

“The first thing it sounds like is a patient with bipolar disorder in a hypo-manic state,” Dr. Drew told Access Hollywood’s Tony Potts on Friday of the recently leaked recordings allegedly of the actor angrily dropping racist and sexist expletives over the phone to his former girlfriend. “They get rageful, irritable… they stop making sense.”

The tapes, which were obtained RadarOnline, have not been confirmed to be Gibson. Some experts have questioned if the recordings have been edited.

The “Celebrity Rehab” doc added that Grigorieva, who has alleged that Gibson hit her, hasn’t helped the troubled star.

“Clearly she has played a role in escalating this point,” he said. “For years, when he was married to a nurse, who may have understood his condition, you don’t see these behaviors. [It] doesn’t excuse or explain the specific content of his rage. The content is a separate thing… The specific content is really hard to listen to. It’s so over the top.”

Gibson’s estranged wife, Robyn – a former dental nurse, stood by her ex this week, writing a letter to the judge in Gibson and Grigorieva’s custody hearing that stated, “Mel never engaged in any physical abuse of any kind toward me before, during or after our marriage.”

Having Robyn’s assistance, Dr. Drew added, was a “very, very good thing” for Gibson.

“They have kids together, they are a partnership of some sort — she supports him and he needs support right now,” Dr. Drew said. “This is a human being who is suffering and ill.”

In related news, a report emerged in the UK’s Daily Mail on Sunday that Gibson, Robyn and several of their children are planning to leave the U.S. and head for the star’s native Australia. A Gibson rep, however, told Access Hollywood that the rumor was “all B.S.,” also denying the paper’s report that Gibson had sold a New York mansion.
