Brendan Fraser Talks ‘G.I. Joe,’ ‘Journey To The Center Of The Earth’

Brendan Fraser must really like “G.I. Joe.”

“Can I please be in the movie? Please, please, please. I’ll wash your dog, I’ll do anything!” the actor begged producer Bob Ducsay on the set of “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” after hearing that the action-figure film had been greenlit.

Fraser revealed his “G.I. Joe” pleas during an interview with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush for “The Billy Bush Show.”

While some reports have Fraser playing villain-turned-hero Gung Ho in the slated 2009 blockbuster, the “Mummy” star was quick to downplay blog rumors.

“I don’t know the name of the character yet and it’s a cameo,” he said. “I showed up, it was a one day cameo, so I’m in the movie. I don’t know in what capacity.”

But Fraser does know quite a bit about his latest film, this weekend’s 3-D extravaganza, “Journey to the Center of the Earth.”

“This is a unique movie because it’s the first of its kind,” he told Billy enthusiastically. “It’s the world’s first live-action feature-length narrative-driven action-adventure-comedy in hi-def 3-D.”

That’s certainly a mouthful, but Fraser promises that the film and its new technology will be easy to swallow.

“I’ve been going across the country and everywhere I go, the first reaction people have is as if it’s a lunar landing or something. They go, ‘They made it!’ It doesn’t matter if you’re 8 or 88, everyone is thrilled to see this movie,” Fraser added. “You can’t watch this at home.”

Fraser, a veteran of special effects epics, such as “The Mummy” and “The Mummy Returns,” thinks that his latest “Journey” could be a big step forward for filmmakers.

“All the CGI has really come to a zenith, to the point where an audience can expect to see anything,” he said. “When I started off making movies, visual effects were still a pretty big deal. But now it’s something that they’re used to. How do you break that barrier? The answer is right there before your eyes.”
