Ricky Gervais On His Quvenzhane Wallis Flub: ‘I Did Better Than John Travolta’

Ricky Gervais got a little tongue tied when it came to pronouncing Quvenzhane Wallis correctly on Sunday at the Golden Globes.

While presenting the 2015 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, Ricky called the “Annie” actress “Quaven Johhny” Wallis (or something to that effect!).

The name flub might sting even more because the actor and former Golden Globes host went on to bring up John Travolta’s now infamous Idina Menzel/Adele Dazeem flub from the 2014 Oscars.

“I’ve been practicing saying that last night, so I don’t have a John Travolta moment, but I got away with it,” Ricky told the laughing crowd at the Sunday’s Golden Globes. “I still watch that on YouTube, it’s brilliant, it’s just brilliant!”

So what did Ricky have to say about his own flub following the Globes?

“They told me it was like ‘Revenge-Johnny, Quaven-Johhny’ they told me that,” at the Weinstein Company & Netflix Golden Globes After Party, seemingly referring to the Golden Globe producers.

“I apologize to her and anyone else with that name,” Ricky told Access. “I did better than John Travolta though, didn’t I?! Gimme that! Nine out of ten?”

Adding, “Everybody’s a critic!”
