Richard Madden Lines Up Miniseries Role; Talks Robb Stark’s Romance, Family Ties In Game Of Thrones
“Game of Thrones” star Richard Madden has lined up a new miniseries for American television.
The Scottish actor, who appeared last year in the PBS Masterpiece miniseries “Birdsong,” with “Les Miserables” actor Eddie Redmayne, has joined the cast of Discovery’s “Klondike.”
Richard will play a character called Bill Haskel in Discovery’s first scripted series.
The miniseries is based on Charlotte Gray’s book, “Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike,” which follows the tale of “two childhood best friends, Bill and Epstein, in the late 1890s as they undertake the next, gold rush capital in the untamed Yukon Territory,” according to Discovery.
Production on the show kicks off later this month in Alberta, Canada.

In the meantime, Richard returns to “Game of Thrones” on March 31 as King Robb Stark, and fans can expect his romance with Talisa (Oona Chaplin), who became his wife in Season 2, to continue – with a passion.
“It does continue very much. He’s falling deeper and deeper in love and further and further away from his mother because of the relationship that they had and the fights that they had, especially in Season 2, and it’s an interesting dynamic,” Richard told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman at the “Game of Thrones” Season 3 premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Monday night. “Robb’s got two women in his life.”
This season of “GOT” will also introduce several new family members of Robb’s, including his Uncle Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies). (READ: Tobias Menzies Talks Edmure Tully.)
“It’s brilliant, actually,” Richard said of his TV family expanding. “It’s really good to see Catelyn – to see Michelle [Fairley] – and me, how we interact in a family environment.”
After all the fighting to get the Stark family back together (which, so far, has been unsuccessful), Richard said bringing the Tully kin on board is important for the characters Robb and Catelyn.

“In a small way we get our family back together a little, but it’s a different kind of family and this is my uncle who last time I saw him I was a kid and now I turn up and I’m his King, so it’s a really strange dynamic, but I think it makes for good drama,” Richard said.
“Game of Thrones” Season 3 premieres March 31 at 9 PM on HBO.
