On The Download: Brett Dennen Has A Sound All His Own

“Brett who?” …. “Brett what?”

This was my first reaction when I kept hearing the name “Brett Dennen.”

“You’ve got to listen to Brett Dennen!” I’ve been told recently by several folks.

So, I finally did, and wow, and I really like this guy’s music!

“Hope For The Hopeless” is Dennen’s third CD (who knew?) and this musician has a style all his own. It’s easy to put guys like Dennen in the John Mayer, Gavin DeGraw, Josh Kelley category, but that’s just not fair to any of them.

Dennen has his own distinctive sound and lyrics, and an incredible voice. Listening to him was like a trip back to the 1970’s — even if I wasn’t alive then.

On “San Francisco,” “Heaven,” “Closer to You,” and “World Keeps Turning,” among other tracks, Dennen really is channeling hope (a popular theme in 2008!).

Also, be sure to check out his friend Mandy Moore in the video for his lead single, “Make You Crazy.”

In today’s economic climate it’s interesting to note that Dennen writes in his album notes, “This record is dedicated to everyone who is struggling. May you find hope in hard times.”

Perhaps this album will help you do so.
