Glam Slam: Get ‘The Bieber’
As I walked around The Grove entertainment complex in Los Angeles this weekend, I couldn’t help but notice all the young guys sporting “The Bieber,” the hairstyle spawned by 16-year-old chart topping pop star Justin Bieber. We recently asked Justin how he gets his signature style.
“Um, just shake it, yeah,” he answered, in typical teen speak.
Sorry JB, I’m gonna need a few more deets! Justin’s “Mop Top bowl cut is reminiscent of the Beatles’ shaggy style,” says stylist Vinette Aquino from Blow, The New York Blow Dry Bar. (www.blowny.com) “To achieve his modern, flipped style you’ll need the right cut and the right products.”
CUT
“To get Justin’s look, it starts with the cut. Wash the hair first with a clarifying shampoo. (Vinette suggests H20+ Sea Salt Replenishing Shampoo $20 at www.h2oplus.com.) Towel dry and leave damp to cut.
Approach the cut utilizing a men’s classic square layer to maintain masculinity and that signature boyish flip. Cut the perimeter at about an inch below hairline at the nape of the neck, using that point as the basis for your guideline throughout the cut. You can achieve this by cutting with a straight razor wet, then personalizing the hair when dry.”
STYLE
“Section hair into four parts to ensure you reach all areas and get a straight, smooth finish. To protect the strands while drying and styling, spritz a light layer of Keratin Complex Thermo-Shine $16 at www.KeratinComplex.com.
Then, blow dry with Mason Pearson brush utilizing a wrapping technique – blowing hair towards the face following the natural direction of the hair pattern. For coarser wavier textures, follow through with flat iron.”
FINISH
“To maintain the style use a soft, airy pomade, like Blow’s Mane Tame or Jack Black’s Sleek Finish Texture Cream. This will add definition, structure and movable hold while keeping hair smooth and sexy from day to night.”
