TEARS FOR SPEARS?: Some top “psychiatrists to the stars” are weighing in on Britney Spears’ decision to shave her head, and although their assessments of the situation vary, they all seem to agree that all is not right in Britney-land. THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS wonders if this latest move from Spears is a “cry for help,” and they’ve questioned some doctors for their opinion. Here’s a few alleged quotes from their report:
New York psychotherapist Dr. Jane Greer: “She’s trying to reinvent the role that she had when she was a pop princess but hasn’t been able to fit in. Her clothes don’t feel like they fit anymore, she feels like a misfit and she’s now stripped herself to the bare essentials to try to claim back her identity.”
Beverly Hills psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman: “Britney’s just so uncomfortable in her own skin that every minute is agony for her. She became so needy of love and just assumed her career would always be there but didn’t realize how damaging her lifestyle was to her music until too late. “Now she’s looking at all the damage around her and feeling helpless to pick up the pieces and she’s just spinning more and more out of control.”
Dr. Lieberman adds that Britney’s shearing may be a result of a broken heart: “Shaving her head is a rebellious move that’s meant to prevent herself from being hurt by another man. By making herself less attractive she’s cutting off her femininity. She’s saying, ‘I don’t want men to touch me, not just physically, but my heart.’”
One of Britney’s peers has chimed in with a reaction, albeit far less profound. THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS reports that when pop superstar Kelly Clarkson was shown a picture of bald Britney at a press conference this weekend, she allegedly had this to say to the gathered press: “Well, she’s still hot, whatever. If you can pull that off, go for it. I like my hair. I’m keeping it. That’s crazy.”
And what will become of Spears’ lost locks? A source from the salon confirmed to ACCESS HOLLYWOOD that they are planning to sell Spears’hair on ebay. They will donate a portion of the hair collected from the crop to the Britney Spears Foundation, which was the salon’s own idea.
And finally, no Celebrity Roll Call would be complete without an alleged Britney sighting, post-shaving: E!‘s MARC MALKIN claims that Britney was spotted this weekendlounging at the pool at the Mondrian hotel with a group of ?dancer-looking types,? according to an anonymous “insider.” Spears was allegedly sporting a short blonde wig underneath agreen cap, and what looked like the dancer’s multicolored bikini top into which she infamously changed during a night of partying last weekend in NYC.“She was smoking cigarette after cigarette,“the sourceclaims. “At first, I couldn?t believe it was her?but then I heard her speak.”
DUAL DATES FOR DIAZ?: Another beauty known for changing her hair (the color of it, anyway) was the subject of a few reports this weekend. Cameron Diaz was allegedly spotted on Thursday night at LA’s Hyde Lounge, and both PEOPLE and X17ONLINE.COM claim that she was getting up close and personal with an Oscar nominee: “Blood Diamond” star Djimon Hounsou. “It looked like the perfect post-Valentine’s Day date,” an anonymous source reportedly told PEOPLE. “They were totally vibing each other, lip-on-lip action. Cameron looked so happy… Djimon followed her every move.” X17’s source said that the pair were “all over each other . . . They arrived around 1:30 a.m. and stayed for about an hour. They cozied up to each other at a table and left together in Cameron’s black Prius. While Cameron was all smiles when they left, Djimon kept his head down, partially hiding his face under his cap.” A representative for Diaz told PEOPLE, “Cameron was out to dinner with friends, they ran into Djimon and he joined them for a drink at Hyde,” says the rep. “They are friends, nothing more.” PEOPLE says thata rep for Hounsou did not return calls for comment.
Meanwhile, PEOPLE followed up on this story the next day with a report that Cameron was seen out with another man the following night, who is none other than her ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. Their story claims that the two ran into eachother at the Whiskey Bar in West Hollywood, where Timberlake was dining with a group of friends, including legendary film director Martin Scorsese. Cameron reportedly showed up at the bar around 1:00 AM, but according to an anonymous observer, she never joined Justin’s table. The source claimed, “She just showed up and Justin got up and started talking to her. They were being very discreet. They weren’t kissing or holding hands or anything, but they were being very friendly.” According to the source, the pair, who broke up last month after nearly four years together, walked out the front door together a half-hour later. There’s no word at this time on any comment from Timberlake or Diaz on the supposed run-in.
And to throw ANOTHER man into the mix, ACCESS HOLLYWOOD’s own source reports that Cameron was spotted at the NBC All Star Game over the weekend. She is reported to have spoken about rumored boyfriend Kelly Slater and their love for the surf, but that the two cannot go anywhere because of the paparazzi.
LOVE FOR PAULA: A pair of American Idols recently had some comments for E! ONLINE’s TED CASABLANCA, but they weren’t of the romantic sort. Casablanca reports that he questioned Taylor Hicks and Carrie Underwood about a certain show’s host at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party last weekend. While attention has been paid to Paula Abdul and her perceived “strange behavior” over the past few years, Hicks and Underwood allegedly chalk it up to Paula just being herself: ?Paula is Paula. What you see is what you get,? said Hicks, while Underwood added, ?She?s one of the sweetest people I?ve ever met.I feel bad when people slam her. She?s just kinda happy-go-lucky, and she really doesn?t care what people think.? Both former Idols said they never had any odd encounters with Paula off-camera, either, according to Casablanca.
COOPER ON THE (AUCTION) BLOCK: A big spender hopes to have an “encounter” of their own with CNN correspondent Anderson Cooper. THE NEW YORK POST’s LIZ SMITH reports that a lunch-date with Mr. Cooper was up for bids at an auction for Bailey House last week, which helps to fight homelessness and HIV/AIDS. Lunch withAnderson fetched a cool $21,000, according to the report.
HARRY POTTER’S ‘DEATHLY’ WISH: A teen actor is about to cash in on some major dough, although it’s not due to any auction. “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe is fast approaching his 18th birthday, at which time he will legally receive his £20 million in film earnings, according to the UK’s DAILY MAIL. Daniel’s big day is July 23rd. And what is his birthday wish? Death! Death for his character Harry Potter, that is. Daniel reportedly tells the DAILY MAIL about his wishes for Harry in the final book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” scheduled to be released in his birthday month of July: “I sort of hope I’ll die in it. I think that’s the only way [author J.K. Rowling] can end it, and I’ve a melodramatic yearning for a death scene.” Two main characters are rumored to die in the final book, and Rowling has said in multiple interviews that Harry may not be safe when the axe falls.
