Iggy Azalea Addresses Alleged Britney Spears Feud: ‘Why Be Angry?’

Is Britney Spears giving Iggy Azalea a shade-throwing lesson?

The pair’s collaborative single, “Pretty Girls,” debuted on May 4 to little fanfare, and it seems the stars may have taken to Twitter to air their grievances.

Things kicked off on June 27 when a fan Tweeted Iggy their support for “Pretty Girls” despite the song having “flopped a little bit.” The Aussie rapper responded, suggesting Britney could have worked harder to promote the track.

“its difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. unfortunately im just featured…” the 25-year-old wrote, which some interpreted as a deflection of blame.

When later faced with more targeted criticism, Iggy really let it fly.

“my comment is factual, it applies to any song. I dont have to suck the womans a**hole 24/7 to be her friend, do i? bye girls,”she fired back on June 28.

Britney had kept mum on the issue until Monday, when the superstar posted a cryptic Tweet that reminded some followers she’s “not that innocent.”

“Can’t wait to get back to Vegas. So thankful I have shows for the rest of the year to look forward to…#YouWantAPieceOfMe,” she wrote.

The statement never mentions Iggy or “Pretty Girls,” but fans couldn’t help but notice the potential subtext. Britney’s “Piece of Me” residency at Planet Hollywood has drawn sold-out crowds since unveiling in 2013, cementing her spot as one of Forbes’ top-earning celebrities. Meanwhile, Iggy’s “Great Escape” tour was canceled in late May amid claims of creative differences, according to Billboard

She may favor more colorful language, but Iggy has already brushed off the alleged feud. On Sunday, she complained on Twitter that reports of a beef with Britney are actually just “putting madddd words in my mouth.”

“I love the song and think Britney is great. Why be angry?” she asked a Britney supporter

“Genuine friends have genuine opinions. Its possible & healthy to have a differing thought without it being bitchy or shade,” the “Fancy” singer Tweeted.

Iggy’s defense of the situation continued through Tuesday when she added, “No one is throwing ‘shade’ or ‘shots’ on either side of the table. The girl is my friend and i support her 100%.”

“Pretty Girls” peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 and disappeared from the Top 40 just three weeks after its release.
