Creed’s Scott Stapp Opens Up About Psychotic Break, Reveals Bipolar Diagnosis

After a string of disturbing events (including a rambling video about being under “vicious attack”) last year, Scott Stapp is on the road to recovery.

Speaking to People, the Creed rocker revealed he had a “psychotic break that was brought on by alcohol and drug abuse.”

“I was hallucinating. I drove around the United States for a month, following an angel that I saw on the hood of my car,” he told the mag. “In my delusional thinking, I thought my family was involved in ISIS, and that millions of dollars had been taken from me to support terrorism.”

Adding, “All of it was nonsense. I was out of my mind.”

The 41-year-old wound up in a dual diagnostic facility, where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder – something that made sense to his wife, Jaclyn.

“I definitely knew there was something going on for years, but I couldn’t pinpoint what it was,” she told the mag.

The rocker initially struggled with the diagnosis, because of the “stigma associated with it,” but his wife helped him cope.

“It became a big sign of relief, because finally, we had an answer,” he explained.

Scott is now sober and on medication.

“Nothing is more important than my sobriety,” he said.
