Kanye West: Beck ‘Should Have Given His Award To Beyonce’
Kanye West it seems wasn’t actually joking when he took to the stage after Beck was announced as the winner of the Album of the Year Award at the Grammys.
After Beck was revealed to have scooped the prize, Kanye got out of his seat and hit the stage, before turning around and smiling. The moment looked to many in the audience like Kanye was mocking his own 2009 stage invasion of Taylor Swift when she beat out Beyonce (whom Beck beat at the Grammys) at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
But, on Sunday night on E’s Grammys post-show, Kanye shared his thoughts on the Grammys moment, and his comments made it seem like his move earlier in the night wasn’t a joke.
“I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more. ‘Flawless,’ Beyonce video. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyonce,” Kanye said. “And at this point, we [are] tired of it, because what happens is, when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration.”
Kanye seemed to suggest he held back earlier in the night (during Beck’s big moment) out of respect for his own family.

“I got my wife, I got my daughter and I got my clothing line, so I’m not gonna do nothing to put my daughter at risk, but I am going to fight for creativity. That’s the reason why I didn’t say anything tonight. But y’all knew what it mean when ‘Ye walked on that stage,” he added.
