Cara Delevingne Responds To Awkward Morning Show Interview

Cara Delevingne has defended herself on Twitter after she was accused of being “exhausted” and “irritated” during a recent live interview.

“Some people don’t understand sarcasm or the British sense of humor,” the London native Tweeted on Wednesday, after the disastrous exchange went viral.

The 22-year-old appeared on “Good Day Sacramento” on Tuesday morning to promote her new film “Paper Towns,” but the segment got off to a rough start when co-anchor Marianne McClary called her “Carla” at the top of the segment.

Things only went downhill from there.

Later in the interview, the “Good Day Sacramento” hosts asked Cara if she had read the hit novel upon which the film is based to prepare for her role. After a brief pause, Cara gave a dry response that only added to the tension.

“Uh, no. I never read the book or the script. I kind of winged it,” she replied, before explaining herself more sincerely.

“No, of course [I did.] John Green is an incredible author,” she continued. “So really, if you haven’t read his books, you should.”

When co-anchor Kenneth Rudulph wondered if Cara’s busy schedule makes it “easier to focus,” the actress seemed confused and replied, “I don’t know where that comes from,” adding, “I’ve wanted to do this since I was young, so it’s not too hard. … I’m living my dream.”

Entertainment anchor Mark Allen then jumped in, telling Cara she “seemed a lot more excited” about the film during an earlier press event.

“Are you just exhausted?” he asked.

“It’s the morning. Don’t be mean,” the supermodel responded with a smile.

“You do seem a bit irritated. Perhaps it’s just us,” McClary suggested.

“Yeah, I think it’s just you,” Cara quipped.

Ouch.

Rudulph issued a mea culpa via Twitter on Wednesday, admitting he “could have asked a better question,” but McClary stood by the segment

“Check out how a true class act deals with his jillionth interview,” she Tweeted, including a clip of Sir Ian McKellen on the show.

Cara, meanwhile, has taken a page from friend Taylor Swift’s handbook since the ordeal and surrounded herself with a social media support squad.
