Sharpton Meets With Sheriff Who Released Paris Hilton
Last week’s aborted move to release Paris Hilton from a jail cell to her posh home has had a couple of reverberations.
Civil rights activist Al Sharpton met with Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca yesterday to discuss Hilton’s release.
Sharpton later told reporters what happened with Hilton points out the unfairness of the legal system. He noted that people who, unlike Hilton, cannot afford big-dollar lawyers and doctors have no chance to get an early release from custody. Baca has denied giving special treatment to Hilton by sending her home to finish her sentence.
Also yesterday, a claim against the county was announced by a black woman who has a prosthetic leg and was recently an inmate at the same jail where Hilton was held last week. Her attorney says the woman also had “serious medical issues” — but wasn’t treated as well as Hilton was. The claim made against the government is the first step to filing a lawsuit.
