LOS ANGELES, Calif. (January 1, 2008) — Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Cavett and Betty White are all TV legends and they will all take part in PBS’ upcoming “Pioneers of Television” documentary series.

Access Hollywood sat down with the history-makers and uncovered some legendary tales.

“It hits me funny that this is literally a pioneer thing because my husband always would tell people, ‘Yes, my wife was a pioneer [of] silent television,’” Betty laughed.

Betty joined Dick, Tony Orlando, Ed McMahon and Tim Conway, all honored on in the four-part documentary series, whichpremieres tomorrow night.

Dick was singled out for his landmark talk show, while Ed McMahon was celebrated for being in that lucky seat next to Johnny Carson for 30 years, with no moment ever planned.

“We never ever talked about the show. We never said, ‘Tonight, you do this. I’ll do that.’ We never ever did that,” Ed revealed.

Tony had his own successful variety series with Dawn in the 1970s.

“The first guest I ever worked with in a sketch was Jackie Gleason,” Tony recalled. “I never did a high school play, never acted in my life. It was very, very intimidating.”

Tim got his big break with Steve Allen, but a certain redhead made him a star.

“Carol Burnett is probably the most generous star you could possibly ever want to work with,” Tim told Access. “She was just wonderful and I spent the most wonderful 11 years I ever will in my life with her. Well, not with her. I mean with the show.”
