‘Gilmore Girls’ No More After May Finale
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 3, 2007) — “The Gilmore Girls,” currently in its seventh season, will officially be ending its run with its May 15th finale. The announcement came today in the form of a joint statement from The CW Network and Warner Bros. Television:
“Announcing the final season of ‘Gilmore Girls’ is truly a sad moment for everyone at The CW and Warner Bros. Television. This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television’s most memorable, lovable characters. We thank Amy Sherman-Palladino, Dan Palladino, Dave Rosenthal, the amazing cast led by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, as well as the producers, writers and crew for giving us this delightful gem for the past seven years. We would also like to thank the critics and ‘Gilmore’ fans for their passionate support and promise to give this series the send-off it deserves.” Speculation about the show’s future has been rampant ever since it was announced last year that creators and executive producers Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino would depart at the end of the sixth season over a contract dispute. The loyal fanbase was relieved to find out that a new show-runner, David S. Rosenthal, would be hired to continue the story of the mother-daughter team from Stars Hollow into its 7th season. But as the season got under way, new rumblings of the show’s potential demise began to surface. Reports indicate that agreements could not be reached between the studio and the show’s two lead stars (Graham and Bledel), but those are unconfirmed at this time.Graham can next be seen opposite Steve Carell in “Evan Almighty” this summer; while Bledel will soon reprise her role as Lena in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.”
