Glam Slam: Snooki — Style Star? What The…?

“Jersey Shore’s” Snooki made the front page of the New York Times Sunday Styles section this week. Hmmmmm. I am still scratching my head over this one. I mean, the Style Section of the New York Times, people! It’s as classy as you can get… and Snooki… well, she is not! Hmmmmm.

“Good Morning America” and “The View” were all over this today, with Joy even joking, “It took me 20 years to be on the cover of the NY Times and this twit’s in it!!” LOL!

The paper singles out the 22-year-old, 4’9 Snooki as the show’s breakout star. I don’t disagree with that. Snooki is EVERYWHERE these days pumping up the PR for MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” which returns for season two this Thursday.

The whole GTL – Gym Tan Laundry – lifestyle of the gang has made them tabloid, blog and YouTube fodder. For them, it’s all about getting drunk, hooking up, bar brawls… Snooki herself even got punched in the face by a guy! Part of pop culture… there’s no denying it. Feature Snooki and the gang in the entertainment section of the paper. But covergirl for the Style Section? Well, that’s another story.

I assume it’s because, for better or worse, she has made an impact on the fashion choices of plenty of wannabes. The super, super dark tan, questionable fashion that always seems too loud, too tight and too short, and yes, there is Snooki’s “signature” pouf. She even has a line of hair products in the works.

I don’t know a single person who would actually WANT to emulate her so-called “style.”

In the article, there are comparisons of Snooki to Elizabeth Taylor in the ‘60s. Aside from the talent and beauty, they are both “short, busty [women] with high hair, big jewelry, garish taste in clothes and a complete indifference to the cyclonic effect that all that produced.”

Elizabeth Taylor. Snooki. NEVER in a million years would I have put those two in the same sentence.

Despite her crass nature, there is something oddly likeable about Snooki, just not her “style.”
