Glam Slam: Emmy Hair Trends

Lady GaGa delivered her signature shock value style at Sunday’s VMAs with each of her over the top outfits, makeup and hairdos more outrageous than the last. “Elegant” and “natural” aren’t exactly the first words that come to mind when you think of a provocative star like GaGa, but those are buzz words for this weekend’s Emmy Awards, especially when it comes to hair.

Stuart Gavert, of Gavert Atelier Salon in Beverly Hills, who has worked his mane magic on everyone from Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson to Paris Hilton and Emmy Nominee Christina Applegate, shares his Emmy hair trend predictions.

TREND: NATURAL CURLS AND WAVES
Get the look: “Long, straight boring hair is no longer in style,” says Stuart. “The key to achieving a textured, natural look, is using your own casual wave or a crimping iron to add some texture to your hair before styling.”

TREND: ELEGANT AND LOOSE UPDO’S
Get the look: “Natural curls with an updo always give good red carpet elegance.” Gavert says, “There is nothing more elegant than a natural updo that exudes that effortless look. Since we’ve moved into the early Fall season, hair can also be up on the sides and down on the back to give a more romantic look.”

TREND: HAIR ACCESSORIES
Get the look: “DKNY, Louis Vuitton, and Prada hair accessories are beautiful and considered jewels for the red carpet hair style. Even a simple updo with a shiny hair jewel would be the perfect touch. Of course you can do this at home with more affordable accessories. Just make sure you use enough product. The more textured your hair is, the better the jewel will stay put,” he says.

TREND: SOLID, SHINY HAIR COLOR
Get the look: “Standard highlights are out and hair painting is in. Use highlights only to customize your look and personal style. Give dimension to your solid color and further accentuate your facial features,” says Stuart.
