Glam Slam: Five Post-Party Pick-Me-Ups
If you are like me, you have been indulging in high fat foods (hello! cupcakes and cookies and chocolate!) and drinks non-stop from Thanksgiving to New Years. Time to get back on track. Today we share five of our favorite Post-Party Pick Me Ups!
WORK IT OFF
Oprah’s trainer, Bob Greene, says get moving! “Break the New Years resolution mentality!!!! Whatever you do to get fit and lose weight after the New Year needs to be done consistently throughout the year. I wish my advice was sexy or even trendy, but it’s not, it’s simply what works. And that advice is simply be as active as you can be, eat in moderation and avoid foods that contain trans and saturated fat, sugar and empty calories and favor veggies, fruits, whole grains, calcium rich foods and foods high in fiber.” For more advice from Bob, go to www.thebestlife.com.
DETOX
Juhi Singh, an acupuncturist at New York’s Patrick Melville Salon and Spa, who has worked with Lindsay Lohan and Petra Nemcova, offers her remedies to get you going after weeks of celebrating. She says excessive partying on New Years can especially take a toll and can leave you feeling weak, tired, moody, and nauseous. Her number one recommendation — hydrate. “Water on an empty stomach may make you more nauseous, so try Gatorade to replenish electrolytes. Also, lemon tea with honey and ginger is incredibly effective. Those ingredients combined help combat the effects of nausea by calming the stomach and helping to eliminate the toxic assimilation of alcohol.” Also make sure you eat. “The myth is that a greasy meal helps rid effects of a hangover, but, in most cases it’s just that – a myth. A greasy meal tricks the body by redirecting its efforts to digest the alcohol – but will usually catch up with your stomach in a few hours. Start with a simple piece of toast or a bagel and see how you feel from there.”
REVIVE YOUR SKIN
Lack of sleep and too many cocktails can take their toll. “I recommend using products that will work to quench your skin as well as de-puff and soothe it” says Melissa Shea, spa director at Soho’s Amorepacific Beauty Gallery and Spa, a fave of Sienna Miller, Uma Thurman and Selma Blair. Her two picks? Amorepacific Refreshing Masque, with Bamboo Sap which is a natural humectant, as an intensive hydration booster for thirsty skin, restoring firmness and tone. And Amorepacific Vitalizing Eye Complex, which also features Bamboo Sap, as well as Red Korean Ginseng, and caffeine. The perfect New Year’s Day recovery recipe to bring tired, puffy eyes back to life!”
HIDE YOUR SINS
If all else fails, cover up! Makeup Artist Paul Innes, who has worked with Tina Fey and Vanessa Williams, shares his post party makeup tips. “If you have to face the world after New Years, it’s a great time to pull out all those bright vibrant colors you were afraid to wear. Warm cheeks, bright eyes and sexy wet lips will camouflage sins! Concealer and eye cream are your best friends to cover up any Cosmos or Apple Martini’s still hiding under your eyes. Avoid purples and green on the eyes, which may tend to make you look sad or tired. Instead, go for the warmer colors in the gold family.”
