Danielle Campbell: Things ‘Start To Spiral’ On ‘The Originals’ Mid-Season Finale
Expect big things on next week’s “The Originals” mid-season finale.
“It’s like the holiday episode, so, to me, it’s a really special one and there is a lot going on,” Danielle Campbell, who plays Davina, told Access Hollywood. “It’s very hectic and [there is] lots of drama, lots of action. It’s a pretty packed episode.”
Previews for the episode have hinted that New Orleans won’t be the same after the events of the mid-season finale and Danielle said there’s a lot going on that will contribute to that theme.
“Everyone’s got their own storyline and their own plan that they’re devising in some way and it kind of just starts to spiral out of control to the point where it’s chaos and it makes for a really cool episode,” she said.
While the stakes have been so high this season with Esther and Mikael in town, baby Hope and Rebekah in hiding, and the war with the wolves, witches and vampires continuing, one of the lighter, fun storylines to follow has been the one involving Davina and Kol/Kaleb (played by “The Originals” newcomer, Daniel Sharman).

“We’re so lucky to have him,” Danielle said of her co-star. “Honestly, working with Daniel has been so much fun for me and such a great learning experience for me too. He’s one of the most brilliant actors I’ve ever met and I’ve been so lucky.”
Kaleb was once just a witch, but now, his body is inhabited by a 1,000-year-old former vampire named Kol. Danielle said the age difference between her character and Kol/Kaleb isn’t a big deal.
“I think age is kind of – it depends on your relationship,” she said.
“Age can kind of play in how you choose it to, so I think for Davina, I mean, Marcel is like a hundred years old. She’s used to being surrounded by all the old folks, so I think she’s used to it. I don’t think it’s a factor for her.”

Davina seems to affect Kol/Kaleb in a way other women haven’t, and Danielle put that down to the strength of her teenage character.
“I think it’s because Davina’s very strong,” she told Access. “I think Davina is not like every other girl that he’s kind of been through in his life.
“She has a back fire, she’s strong and she’s very stubborn and I think he’s had a lot of fun kind of trying to get to her good side and she slowly let him in,” Danielle explained.
And, the actress is a fan of the two characters’ budding relationship.
“Even when they bicker, I think they’re fantastic,” she said.
“It’s playful and no matter how much she gets annoyed with him, it’s still great to watch him kind of flirt with her and I think she enjoys it as well,” Danielle said.
“The Originals” continues Monday at 8/7c on The CW.
