Lawyer: Balloon Boy’s Parents To Surrender

The saga of the balloon boy continues to spin out of control. On Monday, Denver attorney David Lane, who is representing Richard and Mayumi Heene – the parents of Falcon Heene – said they would surrender to authorities.

During an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show, Lane said Richard and Mayumi wish to avoid, “the public spectacle and humiliation” of being arrested in front of their children and would turn themselves in to authorities.

“I have instructed my client, ‘Do not sit down with law enforcement and try and talk your way out of something. You don’t know what you’re dealing with,’” Lane said.

A specific time of their surrender was not given.

On Sunday, Larimer County, CO, Sheriff Jim Alderden told reporters, “It has been determined this was a hoax. It was a publicity stunt,” referring to the silver balloon that captured the nation’s attention three days ago.

Sheriff Alderden also noted that child protective services would determine if the Heene children should be removed from their home.
