Glam Slam: The Friday Five: Ways To Beat A Bad Hair Day

Demi Moore tweeted that she wasn’t going to the Globes because she was having a bad hair day. Many actresses who did brave the downpour quickly saw their hair wilt in the humidity. I can sympathize with them… I was drenched and it was the worst hair day ever – see photo for proof!

Celebrity Stylist Ricardo Rojas, who has worked with Mariah Carey, Zoe Saldana and Heidi Klum, shares five tips for banishing bad hair in bad weather.

1. The rain affects your hair negatively because of the humidity it brings. Humidity causes hair to frizz and breaks the style of your hair. When it is raining you will be most successful if you respect the natural texture of your hair. If your hair is naturally curly wear it curly, if it is straight wear it straight. The two chicest styles on the Globes red carpet, were the Grecian wrapped chignon and the sleek and chic bun. Even if you don’t like the natural texture of your hair, there are easy ways to make your hair look fabulous.

2. If your hair is curly, Ricardo recommends keeping the curl while creating a loose, natural Grecian chignon like Toni Collette. To achieve this look, Ricardo recommends applying Kerastase Nutritive Lumiere Nutri-Sculpt to wet hair. This product has a light hold that will prevent your curls from separating in the humidity. It gives hair a nice shine, but doesn’t leave it greasy. After the hair is dry, Ricardo recommends parting the hair to one side and then loosely pulling the hair back, wrapping it counterclockwise to create a low chignon.

3. If your hair is straight, Ricardo recommends pulling your hair back into a sleek and chic bun like Cameron Diaz and use Living Proof straight making styling cream to prevent hair from frizzing. Ricardo recommends blow drying the hair straight with a large round brush and then pulling it back with a flat brush. Wrap the hair counterclockwise and secure with bobby pins to create the bun.

4. If you want to wear your hair down in the rain like Emily Blunt or Leona Lewis did at the Globes, make sure you blow dry your hair completely dry with an anti-frizz product that coats the hair evenly so it is protected. Frizz affects the ends first, so Ricardo recommends keeping Rene Furterer Karite Serum in your purse and reapplying the serum to the ends every hour or so to prevent frizz.

5. No matter the style, it is most important to seal your look with hairspray so the humidity does not affect your hair.
