Singer Al Jarreau Changes Hospitals In France
Grammy-award winning singer Al Jarreau has been transferred from a hospital in the Alps to one in the French port of Marseille after suffering breathing problems in the mountains that forced him to cancel several concerts.
Hospital officials in the Alpine town of Gap said in a statement that Jarreau was flown to Marseille by helicopter Saturday.
The Marseille hospital says the jazz vocalist is in stable condition but is expected to spend about a week there for tests.
Jarreau’s website says the singer asked to be taken to the hospital after he had trouble adjusting to the mountain altitude.
Jarreau is one of the few artists, like Michael Jackson, to have won Grammys in three separate categories — jazz, pop and R&B.
