Posh Takes London, Talks Britney & Hanging Up Her Microphone
Paris Hilton and Victoria Beckham battled it out for paparazzi attention in London yesterday, as the two women launched new ventures mere streets from each other.
Victoria hit luxury department store Harrods, promoting her dVb jeans line, while not far away, Paris Hilton was making an appearance at Selfridges for her new perfume, Can-Can.
Paris appeared to win the battle, temporarily shutting down London’s famed Oxford Street as she sauntered past crowds and snappers held back by barricades, in her size 11 Christian Louboutins.
But Victoria, whose appearance was flocked to by people who had made a purchase from her line at Harrods within the last week, may have won the war. Though she drew smaller crowds in person, Victoria is likely to get more attention worldwide after revealing in a new interview with Britain’s GMTV that she is done with her music career for good — crushing fans who had hoped she might one reunite with the Spice Girls or reignite her solo career.
“I’m not gonna sing any more. I’ve hung my microphone up,” Posh told the program.
It also seems she may not have any plans to get on a stage at all, with Victoria telling GMTV that rumors circulating about her joining a Las Vegas based ensemble are just that.
“No, I’m not joining The Pussycat Dolls either. I heard that,” she laughed. “The thought of leaping around on stage in a bra top and knickers is [makes face], and I’m not pregnant.”
Though she has heard rumors about herself, she apparently didn’t get them from tabloids. Posh claimed she doesn’t read them.
“I’m not really aware of it, to be honest with you,” Victoria said. “I think if you pay too much attention to what people say about you, I suppose you’d be an uncontrollable big head one minute and then you’d be off doing rehab the next.”
When asked, however, how she managed to stay on the straight and narrow and avoid the rehab-style pitfalls faced by Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse, Posh put the emphasis on family.
“I look at someone like Britney Spears and I feel really sorry for Britney Spears,” Victoria said. “I suppose partly it’s because of our family. We’re a very, very close family. Like I said, everything we do revolves around the children.
