‘Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce’: EP Marti Noxon Drops Season 2 Hints

Still processing your emotions after Tuesday night’s season finale of “Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce”? Us too.

“Know When It’s Time To Move On” was the rule of the finale, but Abby didn’t say goodbye to Jake. As they prepared to take the next step after signing divorce papers — filing them — Jake suggested something else: “Jake and Abby 2.0.”

Abby went home to her divorce party, paintballed her wedding dress, and then decided she wasn’t done with Jake after all. The not-quite-former spouses slept together, seemingly restarting their relationship (before Jake found out Becca had a secret).

“After some time in the room with the writers, when I pitched the season the first time, that was the finale, for sure,” Executive Producer Marti Noxon told Access Hollywood of how things ended between Abby and Jake. “What we didn’t realize was that Will was gonna be such a big part of that too, that she’s gonna be so torn and so would the audience between this new love with someone who feels like it’s gonna combust any minute, but it’s so intense, and then this thing with Jake, which is her family.”

Will was waiting for Abby back at her house the next morning (with Mexican hot chocolate), and she told him they needed to talk about their planned trip to Baja. She was crying at the end of the episode, but for Wabby shippers (fans of Will and Abby), there is some hope.

“I will say Will’s not gone,” Noxon told Access.

Season 2 won’t start filming until later this year, but Noxon suggested there will be more between Abby and Will when the show returns.

“I think the good part of the situation they’re in is they’re in for some serious conflict at last. He’s a real person and I think that we can see more of his — what he’s like when he finally has had enough,” Noxon hinted.

Jake’s future with Abby was also put into question when his ex, Becca, came by to tell him she’s possibly pregnant.

“I think that it’s gonna throw just a giant bomb in the middle of all of their plans,” Noxon said of the future of Jabby (Jake + Abby). “I don’t know that Abby has a plan right now, or that they have a plan about each other, but suddenly, everything just gets way more complicated.”
