‘Dancing’ Recap: One Elimination & One Perfect Score

It was Most Memorable Year week on “Dancing with the Stars” on Monday night, but for one celeb, it was their last dance.

(Spoiler Alert! This story contains the results of Monday’s “DWTS” elimination.)

Designer Betsey Johnson and partner Tony Dovolani are splitting from the ballroom. They were eliminated on Monday night, but left on a happy note.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you,” Betsey said, reflecting on her time on the show. “This has been the best, [most] wonderful thing with my daughter, Lulu. It’s just been a trip. A big trip. A trip!”

Betsey’s final dance – a jive – actually began with her daughter Lulu on stage with her, a reference to her most memorable year (1975, when her daughter was born) and it delighted the crowd and the judges.

“The way that you celebrate your daughter, America celebrates you,” judge Julianne Hough said after the pair completed their number, which earned 29 out of 40 points.

While not necessarily in the bottom 2 according to co-host Tom Bergeron, racecar driver Michael Waltrip and his partner, Emma Slater, were left hanging until the final second to find out they were continuing on in the competition.

On the other end of the spectrum, it was a huge night for “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” alum Alfonso Ribeiro and his partner, Witney Carson. The two mixed their jive with Alfonso’s famed “The Carlton” dance, which they performed in honor of his time on the show for the most memorable year theme.

Their moves delighted everyone and the pair earned the night’s top honors – a perfect score of 40 out of 40.

“This is what we’ve waited for,” Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. “All I can say is, finally!”

Lea Thompson and her pro, Artem Chigvintsev, also impressed the panel to the tune of 39 out of 40 for a contemporary number that paid tribute to the actress’ late father.

“Exceptional quality of movement, my darling,” Bruno Tonioli commented.

Judge Len Goodman was not present on Monday’s show. Instead, the fourth and final score was the result of America voting online.

Next Monday, the celebrities will take part in the switch-up, where, for one week only, they dance with a new partner.
