‘Two And A Half Men’ Charlie Episode: Chuck Lorre’s Vanity Card Explains All

In the weeks leading up to the “Two and a Half Men” series finale, fans were wondering whether Charlie Sheen would make a guest appearance.

Although his character, Charlie Harper, was killed off years ago when he was pushed in front of a moving train by Rose, the character (but not Sheen) made a comeback on Thursday. Rose had actually been holding him prisoner, until his escape in the final episode.

But, Harper didn’t live long. He met his fate when a grand piano fell on him in the finale. A body double was used in place of the show’s former star, who chose not to return after all.

In the vanity card that appeared at the end of the show’s final episode, creator Chuck Lorre explained Sheen’s noticeable absence.

“I know a lot of you might be disappointed that you didn’t get to see Charlie Sheen in tonight’s finale. For the record, he was offered a role. Our idea was to have him walk up to the front door in the last scene, ring the doorbell, then turn, look directly into the camera and go off on a maniacal rant about the dangers of drug abuse. He would then explain that these dangers only applied to average people. That he was far from average. He was a ninja warrior from Mars. He was invincible,” he wrote. “And then we would drop a piano on him. We thought that was funny. He didn’t.”

Lorre wrote that Sheen had an alternative plot twist in mind.

“Instead, he wanted us to write a heart-warming scene that would set up his return to primetime TV in a new sitcom called ‘The Harpers’ starring him and Jon Cryer,” Lorre continued. “We thought that was funny too.”

Sheen will be returning to primetime, but on ABC’s “The Goldbergs” in an episode titled “Barry Goldberg’s Day Off,” which is inspired by the 1986 film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Sheen will play a similar role in “The Goldbergs” – a guy in a police station (in the original film, Ferris’ sister, who was played by Jennifer Grey, flirted with Charlie’s bad boy character).

“Attention World: If you’re looking for my much anticipated cameo on network TV, you’ll have to check out ‘The Goldbergs,'” the actor Tweeted on Thursday. “I go where the love is. #OfCourseI’mNot”

Sheen’s guest appearance on “The Goldbergs” will air on Wednesday, February 25 at 8:30/7:30c on ABC.
